Heart shaped box with lid
Instructions
1
Open in Easel
Open the project in Easel and scale to fit your material. I made mine out of 1 3/4" Purple Heart.
2
Cut out shapes
I used an 1/8" upcut spiral bit but the design should accommodate a 1/4" bit with no problems. I have one on order and will test it out when I get it and update this step.
Estimated time: 60 minutes
3
Sand
As with all woodworking you will need to sand, sand, sand... I plan on rounding over the top lid to make it look more heart like. I will update this once it is completed. I wanted to get this posted in time for Valentine's Day.
Estimated time: 30 minutes
4
Stain/Finish
Apply the stain or finish of your choosing. I used Tung Oil

IfI want the box deeper then do I just cut an additional piece and go all the way through? Then glue together?

Kurt Canez, I would glue 2 pieces of wood together first, and then carve it out as deep as the bit could safely handle.

I found the local DIY store has 1 inch thick pine stair treads. cut to a 9inch length - Worked perfect for the bottom and I was able to go .75 deep with the pocket. Then I used 1/2 thick pine for lid.

The lid isn't snug. It's got like 1/16 play on all sides. I followed directions exactly. Nice design. Thank you. The lid is my only issue.

Hello would you be able to show me how you made the design?

I made one of these for my wife for a ring I bought for Christmas. I sized it down to three inches to make a smaller box, and did it on purple heart as well. I found the lid fits quite tight, and it takes some effort to open it. Great project!

how did you do that! Great project!
