Light box wall art

Published Feb 19, 2026 · Carved

Description

I carved the shell with the cnc out of plywood. Added some washi rice paper behind the front panel to dilute light. Then there's a panel of 366 leds one for each hole. The design was inspired by calendar art where each hole represents a day and each column represents a month

The dadoes may need to be adjusted since they didn't really work for me and I ended up manually gluing the sides

This is cool! Was the LED panel something you bought or did you build it?

I got an led strip roll and cut it up to make the columns and connected each column with led connectors and wires. Originally tried soldering but that didn't work out.

do the days light up like a calendar to show where we are in the year?

Jeff TalbotPro · February 20, 2026

no, I think it's possible but I didn't get around to programming LEDs to do that

HenryPro · February 23, 2026

How are you controlling the LED colors?

James RodovichPro · February 26, 2026

I'm using an ESP32 controller and the WLED app to control the color/effects of the lights
