Rainbow Puzzle
Notes
Inlay gap is too small for puzzle function. Need to increase the gap or do some serious sanding to get the pieces to fit easily in and out of the pockets.

Trying to decide what material to use for this rainbow puzzle. Wood takes so much finishing to be safe for a baby. Thoughts on corian? Would that work with VCarve inlay?

i don't know if v-carve inlay is a good approach for this type of project. the inlay is actually one solid piece.

Do you sand off the back of the inlay plug to make it flush? I was thinking I'd add little pulls to the back of each piece, but maybe the regular inlay to make thicker plug pieces would be a better approach

you have to remove quite a bit of material by either using a saw or doing a planing job. the inlay is normally glued, clamped, and dried before doing that so that it is securely in place. i think a normal inlay would probably be a better approach if the pieces are intended to go in and out.

For the wood toys I did for my kids I used plain mineral oil as the finish. It is food grade safe. Adds no color so might not be best fit for a rainbow, unless it's mixed with some coloring agent.
